So should you buy  the Oral-B Pro 7000 or the Oral-B Pro 8000?

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 are at the premium end of the Oral-B range. They are both extremely capable toothbrushes with many features but which gives you the most bang for your buck. This review will do a direct comparison between the brushes so you know which one to buy. Who will win the Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000. But just before we start you should know…

Looking at Amazon.com and amazon.co.uk, I can see that there is a clear favourite in each region.

2) Features: Oral-B Pro 7000 vs 8000

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and 8000 come with a raft of features to be expected for two top of the range toothbrushes.

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 have a pressure sensor that flashes red if you are pressing too hard. Not only do they both have a pressure indicator light but if you press too hard the brush automatically slows down the speed and power of the brush head. This is essential on an electric toothbrush as pressing too firmly can cause gum recession and tooth wear.

Both Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 have blue tooth connectivity to the Oral-B app. The Oral-B app is a great habit forming tool. It not only tracks your progress with cool graphs but senses when you brush too hard. The most important thing for me about the Oral-B pro app is that it is a great motivator to brush twice a day and for two minutes.

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and Oral-B Pro 8000 have stands to hold the electric toothbrush upright and to hold any additional toothbrush heads. This stops the toothbrush heads and holder getting grimy and mucky.

In cleaning modes the Oral-B Pro 7000 has one more cleaning mode than the Oral-B Pro 8000. This is the tongue cleaning mode

Although I think number of cleaning modes are pretty irrelevant on electric toothbrushes, a tongue cleaning mode actually could be quite useful.

The Oral-B Pro 7000 comes with a wireless smart guide. This means that if you do not have your phone on you for whatever reason, you can use this to measure the amount of time you have brushed for and the pressure. It will even give you a star rating for how well it thinks you have brushed your teeth and you will get a smiley face when you have finished.

The Oral-B Pro 8000 in comparison has done away with the wireless smart guide and has given you additional features for your phone. It comes with a smartphone holder so that you can put it on your mirror. The reason they have done this is so that you can get the optimal use of the advanced position detection technology. What this allows you to do is to find out the areas you have missed whilst brushing and correct them. This is really groundbreaking as frequently missing areas whilst brushing can lead to decay or gum disease.
The other feature that Oral-B Pro 8000 has is a Smart Ring with LED lights which allows you to personalize your toothbrush. It allows you to choose up to 12 colours using your smartphone app  which gives you visual feedback on brushing time, selected mode and brushing pressure.

The Oral-B Pro 8000 also has a final trick up its sleeve. It has a lithium-ion battery in the travel case that allows you to charge both your toothbrush and smartphone using one outlet. This is really handy particularly when travelling. I have done a detailed review of the Oral-B Genius 8000 here.

The Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 wins on features because it is a more modern version of the Oral-B Pro 7000. Although it does not come with the wireless smart guide, the Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 other features like the Oral-B app, advanced positioning detection technology and smartphone holder makes the wireless smart guide obsolete. This is especially as we now carry our smartphones everywhere with us.

Both the Oral-B Pro 70000 and 8000 have the same mechanism of action which is oscillating rotating.The electric toothbrushes manage 40,000 oscillations and 8800 pulsations per minute and therefore are the same power. Both electric toothbrushes can fit all the Oral-B Brush heads including:

Both Electric toothbrushes are the same in this regard. They have the same number of brush heads and the same oscillations and pulsations per minute.

As expected from two top of the range toothbrushes, both electric toothbrushes come with rechargeable batteries and charging stands. The battery life for both electric toothbrushes is 40 minutes which is 10 days using it twice daily for 2 minutes each brush. This is much better than the other electric toothbrushes in the Oral-B range.

The Oral-B Pro 7000 uses a NiCd  (Nickel Cadmium) rechargable battery which runs off 110V.  This leads to a much slower charge time the Oral-B Pro 8000. The Oral-B Pro 8000 uses a Lithium Ion Battery which runs off 220-240v. The reason for this is because the Oral-B Pro 7000 has been designed for the US market and Oral-B Pro 8000 for the UK market.

Similar Battery Life however the Oral-B Pro Genius 8000 edges it because of the better type of battery (lithium ion) and faster charging times. This is because it has been designed for the United Kingdom Market.

5) Portability: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

Both the Oral-B Pro 7000 and 8000 comes with travel cases and in terms of portability that is where the similarities stop.

The Oral B Pro 8000 is slightly lighter than the Oral-B Pro 7000. The Oral-B Genius Pro 8000 is 28 grams lighter with the brush head. This is not a significant amount, however, could be the difference between being over the luggage weight limit when travelling. The Oral-B Pro 8000 also comes with a premium travel case that has a lithium-ion battery that can charge your phone and toothbrush at the same time.

Portability: Verdict

The Oral-B Pro Genius 8000 is lighter and has a premium travel case that can charge your phone and toothbrush at the same time. It is the clear winner when travelling.

6) Value for money: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

As alluded to right at the beginning of the post, the Oral-B Pro 7000 and 8000 have been designed for different markets. In the United Kingdom the Oral-B Pro 8000 is clearly the best value for money being currently cheaper than the Oral-B Pro 7000.

In the United States the Oral-B pro 7000 is the clear winner being significantly cheaper than the Oral-B pro 8000. Although admittedly the Oral-B Pro 8000 is a better electric toothbrush with more features. I would still say that Oral-B Pro 7000 in US would represent better value for money.

Value for Money: Verdict

It depends on where you live. The Oral-B Pro 7000 is the winner in the United States and the Oral-B Pro 8000 is in my view the best electric toothbrush in the United Kingdom.

Summary: Oral-B pro 7000 vs 8000

Both these electric toothbrushes are exceptional. The Oral-B Pro 8000 is overall a slightly better electric toothbrush with more features, lighter and generally a more up to date toothbrush. However if I lived in the United States I would buy the Oral-B Pro 7000. If I was in the United Kingdom I would buy the Oral-B Pro 8000.
